This band features ex-members of Dark Angel and Abattoir, who also happen to be in Pagan War Machine. The musical style is slightly more aggressive than Pagan War Machine's (which isn't exactly elevator music to begin with!) but features much more aggressive vocals that border on Death Metal-style vocals - I'd say the closest comparison for the vocals is some Swedish melodic death such as The Crown, with a slight blend of Black Metal-style screeches. The music can best be described as very speedy Thrash with some elements of Death Metal. Personally I don't think the music and the vocal style are a very good match here, but this really is a matter of personal preference. This MCD is very short so it's difficult to get a very good idea of what the band has to offer - the songs here are all fast and brutal, but, save for a few moments here and there, it ends without having caught much of my attention. Not horrible, but not memorable either (I can't shake the feeling that more Thrash-like vocals would help matters here...) In the end, I'm not too sure what to think of Dreams of Damnation, so I'll wait for a full-length album and enjoy more Pagan War Machine in the meantime. ;) Either way, I'm sure a lot of people will love this. |
