It's hard to believe that's it's already been 13 years since Overlorde released Return of the Snow Giant. What caught my attention the most is the replacement of Bobby Lucas on vocals by George Tsalikis – a tall order, to say the least. Much to my delight, the new guy shows that he's more than able to fill Bobby's shoes, delivering powerful vocals that fit Overlorde's style like a glove. Musically, the three new songs stick to what Overlorde are best known for: Powerful, pounding heavy metal with a somewhat dark, sometimes epic-ish vibe to it. This might officially be demo material but it sure sounds beyond demo quality, with the vocals and instruments just screaming to get out of your speakers and grab your head for a forced headbanging session. ;) Overall all three songs are really good, not necessarily as accessible as the material on their debut album but still catchy, memorable and you just can't shake them off your head after a couple of listens. Things are certainly looking good for the upcoming album which, I hope, is just around the corner. |
