Dark Descent seems to be reissuing this on cassette, of all things, so I guess that's why I have a 3-year-old album in my review stack. Diocletian are a Death/Black band from NZ, and it should not surprise anyone that they are signed to Osmose, as they are an almost prototypical Osmose kind of band. Diocletian play fast, blasting Death Metal with a Black Metal attitude, and they sound pretty much like Angelcorpse. I mean, if you know what Angelcorpse sound like, then you know what you need to know about this album. That said, this is a really good Angelcorpse clone, with good sound, furious playing, and vicious songwriting that wallows in savage heaviness and ruthless speed. Not original, but satisfying. |
