Raised on Metal is the ninth album from France's Heavy/Power merchants Lonewolf. It is very much in line with previous efforts like The Heathen Dawn and Cult of Steel, containing a mix of double-kick-driven burners and mid-tempo crunch fests. Lonewolf's sound fits into the Germanic bucket of Power Metal with nary a keyboard flourish to be found. The vocals are deep and full of grit and the guitars do the twin attack quite well and this is an album that lends itself to the air guitar quite readily. The songwriting is a bit safe with nothing really straying from what we've heard from Lonewolf on the past few albums, so the memorability factor on Raised on Metal could be a lot higher. If, however, you like your bands to stick to a core sound and rarely deviate, Lonewolf has you covered. As I've stated in previous review, fans of Wizard and Grave Digger are going to be Lonewolf's target audience and they won't be disappointed with Raised on Metal, but it's not on the same level as Cult of Steel. |
