These Estonians play some death metal that flirts with the brutal style while not quite getting there most of the time. The death growls are good with a few exceptions where they get a bit too guttural and it just feels out of place with the rest of the album. Add to that a couple of times where there is what sounds like a cellphone chime popping out of nowhere, to the point where I can't help but think that the sound was caught by mistake during recording. Weird. Musically this is your average, no-frills, no-surprise death metal and I'm often reminded of the NY death metal sound, especially Immolation, just not as good. It's not essential, but you can definitely do worse. |
