One look at this Portuguese band's logo should be enough to convince you they are going for an old school sound. Savage is the band's debut and it is full of the Hard Rock-flavored Heavy Metal found on albums like Battle Hymns, Fire Down Under and Killers. The choruses are catchy while the songs are heavy but keep that upbeat Hard Rock vibe. The songwriting is above average and songs like "Yakuza" and "Metalzone" brought Guy Speranza and Tony Moore immediately to mind. Lyzzärd aren't trying to break any molds; they just play old school Metal the way it was meant to be, minus the ill-advised cover of Michael Sembello's "Maniac" (from the movie Flashdance). Promising debut. |
