Uh, one-man Black Metal bands... They always scare you because you really don't know what to expect from them, right? Lord Wolf Alexander is from Monte Video, Uruguay and his main intention is obviously to make the kind of Black Metal that would appeal to fans of the most primitive form of the genre. I don't know if this stuff does so, but I must say that right off the bat it is neither well executed nor well produced at all (the drums especially, as they sound like tin cans in the mix, just bad and awful). Also, the lyrical content is absolutely crappy and horrendous (for example, "Ilmarinen" is taken from Finland's national opus Kalevala, but the context is so out of place that it makes me angry at best. No, no, no...). On the slightly more positive side of things, the guy's very angst-ridden vocals are the most beautiful thing here, along with a pretty eye-catching, reddish album cover. There are just a few, very occasional moments to be found that show only momentarily, that maybe he has reasons to push forward with this project alone. However, my completely free advice for him would be to consider hiring some skilled and experienced musicians to make this band work. Without this, this project/band will be doomed to be just a lousy cellar project. Now feel free to cry me a river if I didn't tell you the honest truth. Very uninspiring, amateurish and criminally boring. |
