There must be something in the water in Chile because that country has quite a few good bands on the extreme side of metal. Hades Archer is, you guessed it, one of those. This is fast, heavy, hard-hitting, sharp-as-a-knife black metal with a somewhat thrashy edge. The album always throws me off a little bit even though I've had it more or less regularly for a while now: The songs go anywhere from precise, refined but raw, fast black metal to melodic-yet-heavy and then the band will suddenly go into a somewhat messy speed fest that just makes the head spin. Temple of the Impure might clock in at just under 34 minutes, but it's entertaining, varied and devoid of any filler material. Time for me to check out the other goodies in their back catalogue. |
