Ukrainian Death/Thrash Metal act Hell:On have been building up the band's profile over the past years as a hard-working and determined unit. Hell:On's route into the world of Death and Thrash Metal has a few tricky curves that tend to keep a listener alert with little details that they have incorporated into their songs. The band banks more on complex, tricky and even progressive song structures than on putting through a senseless sonic beating, often reminding me of bands like Vader and Arise-era Sepultura, but with a twist of open-minded elements here and there, just to spice things up a little bit. Hell:On's true strength can be found from their attempt to turn down some musical barricades, without sacrificing a iota in brutality or doing things over-the-top. At first, Once Upon A Chaos... does not offer an easy listening experience, but with every listen one is able to get more and more into this it, finding new cool details. The last song, "I'm God", which also features Andreas Kisser from Sepultura as guest, also seems to be my personal favorite songs off the album, with its ominously creeping atmosphere and some of the heaviest riffings on the album. With Once Upon A Chaos..., Hell:On proves to be still one of the leading Metal forces coming from the fertile Ukrainian underground Metal territory. Absolutely worth checking out. |
