Hamferð is not exactly a new band, as they have been around since 2008, but this is my first time listening to them, and boy am I glad I did. These Faroese dudes are anything but anonymous, though, as their main man is Barren Earth's own Jón Aldará. The sound here resembles Swallow the Sun, Clouds and a little bit of Draconian in the slower, denser parts. The emotional charge hits the spot perfectly and there are no notes out of key. From the first seconds of "Fylgisflog" where the sea makes its appearance, to the majestic ending with the epic and sorrowful "Vaápn í anda", the record keeps you holding your breath and mesmerized by the performances and deeply inspired instrumentals. This is one of the most exciting, complex, captivating and atmospheric albums I've heard recently. The stories, the consistency, the instrumental and the execution of Támsins likam are proof that Hamferð will have a long life in the Metal scene. And this marvelous piece of art came from the Faroe Islands, of all places, which makes the aura and the overall experience even more impressive. Grab this as soon as you can. |
