Horn is German band that plays a very melodic black metal featuring rasping vocals, blasting drums and harsh guitars along with clean vocals and "non-metal" instruments (the photo of main man Nerrath included with the promotional material shows him holding something that looks like a hurdy-gurdy). Retrograd is the band's latest release, a 5-song EP (plus an intro) that is short but quite entertaining. Nerrath doesn't reinvent the wheel with his songwriting but he knows how to build a song around solid riffs and uses his alternating vocals and variety of instruments to create some nice atmosphere. The songs on Retrograd don't sweep me away like some other band's music does, but if you like Ildra or Winterfylleth, Horn is a band to add to your playlist. |
