Band reunions are an inevitable phenomenon of the worldwide Metal scene. It's happening all the time and everywhere on this globe. Take for example the past Swedish underground Death Metal scene: many once disbanded bands that ruled back in the early 90s, on the top of the Death Metal wave, have made their return from their unceremoniously closed graves, making new stuff under new line-ups, and so forth. Out of these is this band from Sala, Vestmänland, named Wombbath that reformed just in 2014, after having been away from the spotlight for nearly 20 years. Wombbath only has guitarist Häkan Stuvemark left from the first incarnation of the band. Downfall Rising, the title of this eight-track comeback album, is a strong return to the very roots of heavily 90s tinged Swedish Death Metal, when extremely down-tuned guitars and guttural vocals made the Swedish Death Metal troops true winners of the genre. The band has not left anything half-done on this record at all and has determinedly and convincingly managed to capture that essential feeling and vibe of the yesteryears into their 2015 sound. Wombbath has decided to crush you on Downfall Rising, and that's what they are doing. Crushingly heavy, brutal 90s-styled Swedish old school Death Metal, done with the old, tasty recipe. Yummy, I say...! |
