Ocean Throne is a two-piece Finnish Death Metal act, in which Mr. Heikkinen and Korhonen want to pay homage to some of the pioneers of the Death Metal genre such as Death, Morbid Angel and Entombed, as they mention in the info sheet. Early Death and Entombed influences can certainly be heard when listening to the band's seven-track debut album, Worshipping Death, and even Demilich's influence when it comes down to those deep, nearly inhuman "not-from-this-world" death grunts. As the album title says, this album is all about worshipping old school Death Metal without any gimmicks, bullshit and other fancy artsy fartsy shit. Ocean Throne sticks to the basics of the Death Metal sound. It's heavy, it's brutal, it's very stripped down, and most importantly, it also works. You have heard it all before, yes, but so what? This stuff is meant for an easy listen and it does not cause any headache for sounding irritating. Ocean Throne have learned their lessons well on Worshipping Death. You pretty much know already what you are about to get just by glancing at the album title alone, don't you? |
