Symbol of Domination (Belarus) with Narcoleptica Productions (Kazakhstan) decided to cooperate to release Russian Black Metallers Temple of Nihil's 4-track debut EP at the end of December 2016. Temple of Nihil are a 2-man Black Metal band, namely Corpse and Draug. To me, they sound like a Russian version of Finland's infamous Barathrum, having bits of Doom Metal incorporated into their occasionally dragging, eerie Black Metal sound. And when the band shifts into the faster gear, they remind me quite a lot of Immortal, which cannot be disliked either. In other words, there's a lot of to be liked in Temple of Nihil as they have crafted their own very effective Black Metal recipe, which shows they know deep down that Black Metal is all about grimness, coldness, and hopelessness. Even if the band comes from the South-West region of Russia of Kaluga, they sound like they could have come from far up north; all this dark, freezing coldness in their sound truly comes through the songs, which, I for one, value highly. It isn't an easy game to make convincing Black Metal, and this is where Temple of Nihil have done a very nice (but not extraordinary) job. |
