Finland just keeps churning out metal bands of every stripe with such regularity you have to wonder if "what rock instrument will he/she play?" is the second question after "name" on Finnish birth certificates. Nightstryke has been around for a couple of years and their debut album, Power Shall Prevail, which the band independently released initially, has been picked up for CD release by Stormspell. Old school heavy metal with ample speed and plenty of Maiden-esque twin guitar work is what you'll find and the whole album is a raucously joyful trip to the past. Singer Rami Hermunen sounds a bit like High Spirit's Chris Black, especially on tracks like "Take You Away" though Nightstryke is the heavier band by a mile. They even go in for the epic-length, epic-topic album closer "Mist in the Valley" which clocks in at over nine minutes. Much like "The Trooper," "Mist..." recounts the Charge of the Light Brigade from the Crimean War. This is a solid pickup for fans of 80s metal like Iron Maiden and revival bands like High Spirits and Züül. Recommended.
