These days retro Thrash bands are popping up all over the place, all of them bowing down at the altar of Exodus and hoping to resurrect the late 80s. It almost seems weird to call them retro, since that is pretty much all there is nowadays, much like every new Death Metal band calling themselves "Old School". Perpetratör are a Portuguese band, and this is their second album of consciously old-fashioned Thrash, and it is really fucking good. A Thrash band needs one thing above all others: it needs riffs, and this band has them. Maybe there is nothing classic here, but all the riffs are solid, and they will get your head banging nicely. Bassist/Vocalist "Rick" has a nice gargly voice that evokes Tom Araya in the old days – no screeching or screaming, just distinctly Thrash vocals that get the job done. This is very much stripped-down, meat and potatoes Thrash, but it will scratch that itch. |
