Apocalypto, from Bulgaria's The Outer Limits, finds power metal label Stormspell dipping their toes in the thrash pool. This is a modern-sounding album of late 80s thrash, a la Testament. The vocalist doesn't sound like Chuck Billy, but his delivery is similar and the riff work has Skolnick/Peterson written all over it. With that said, you've heard a lot of what Apocalypto has to offer though I have to say The Outer Limits brought their "A" game when they wrote the title track. The slowly building speed of the opening riff will no doubt have the pit in a frenzy while the breakdown around the chorus is there to give the faithful a bit of a breather. Nothing inventive but well done. |
