Ascheland is the second full-length from Austria's Richthammer and though the press info says it won't sound like anything else you've heard, that's not the impression I'm getting. Guttural growls, the occasional rasp, down-tuned riffs and triggered drumming are all things I've heard often enough, even though I don't listen to a ton of death metal. The German-sung lyrics are a plus as the language lends itself to anger and bile, but the songwriting is nothing to shout about, in German or any other language. The guys in the band can play well enough but what they are playing isn't overly engaging. |
