Raw, DIY-sounding Black/Thrash Metal with lo-fi demo quality is what is offered by this Russian leather and metal reeking group Tanator. Possessed by Madness, Possessed by War is the title of the band's 2014 debut album, which was originally released as a limited-edition cassette, but has now received a proper CD release, courtesy of three different labels. The band shares a lot of similarities with Kansas City's own underground warmongers Order from Chaos (the band's demo days especially), but with a much less interesting and exciting approach. Where Order from Chaos managed to cut big slices from the cake of inspiration, Tanator have their plate almost empty of ideas. The stuff that's offered here unfortunately falls short, although presented with a good amount of intensity and enthusiasm. The band will surely try to do better, but this attempt sadly never quite crosses the finish line. |
