This is a re-release of Dark Funeral's first EP with two bonus tracks added. For those not familiar with Dark Funeral, they play fast, brutal Black Metal, and this MCD is a damn good introduction to this Swedish band. I find their sound quite similar to Tsjuder's (well, Dark Funeral were there before so it's more like the other way around.) The booklet includes a page of band pictures from 1993-95, as well as the lyrics for the first four songs (studio tracks) which were originally recorded in 1994. The two bonus tracks were recorded at Abyss Studio in 1996. There are no weak songs here, in fact the main problem is that this is only a little over 24 minutes that make you wish for more. It's hard to describe the music other than fast, heavy and brutal with very good BM vocals. Pretty good sound overall on all six songs (they were recorded at two different studios), the various instruments can be single out pretty easily. There are some damn good catchy guitar solos in here as well. The last song, Call from the Grave is probably the catchiest song on the CD, thanks to a standout solo. This just rules. I dig this, and so should you. Now go buy. |
