Whoa. It's been a death metal weekend here and I was still picking myself off the floor after repeated assaults by Bolt Thrower's Realm of Chaos when I put Outre-Tombe on. Well, back on the floor I am. Might as well just go with it and stay there.

This Quebec-based band pretty much fucking slays, it's that simple. These guys play it old school like it's the early 90s all over again and make no apologies for it. Forget about what's "in" in modern death metal. Outre-Tombe play it raw, fast and that drummer often takes centre stage and you'll need to put your speakers back in their spot once he's done. I love the guitars on this – razor-sharp, slicing away at everything in sight, and those riffs, what about those riffs! Argh! The occasional machine-gun style is downright addictive, the occasional melodic passages catch you off guard, and the solos aren't overdone and flow along perfectly.

The vocalist literally barks away with his harsh, raucous throaty voice. Everything is sung in French, and not in the melodious French accent from France but the harsher, more blue-collar-ish French-Canadian accent. That adds an extra level of brutality to this baby. So, hmm, yeah... Get this.
