I bought this as a blind purchase at a record store a few weeks ago. The band name, cover art and band photo on the back just screamed "thrash". And thrash it is. This is a vinyl reissue of Eviction's 1988 tape demo and, damn, demo? This is better than many full-length albums. This is one of those thrash releases that were quite popular in the 80s: Straightforward, fast, fun, visceral, with heavy and catchy riffs. It's also a mix of serious and not-so-serious subject matter, with things sounding quite "angry at the system" at times, while some other tracks have more of a party, goofy vibe to them. It doesn't get more 80s than this. The vocals are a bit harsh but rather clean, very much like many American and Canadian thrash bands of the era. This is a nice reissue that includes a lyric sheet (it's surprising how many vinyl releases don't include those), an insert for ordering merchandise just like back in the day, and, to get with the times, a free download card to download a digital version for your portable needs. The band went on to release only one full-length in 1990 and another demo tape in 1993. Might be nice to see those reissued as well... |
