As is the case with most Cruz del Sur releases, this is a marvelous piece of Epic Heavy Metal worthy of the label's already legendary catalogue and deserving of standing side by side with the best of the genre so far in 2018. Jean-Pierre Abboud's roars fit perfectly with the ethereal instrumental, the skilled guitar work and the highly epic atmosphere, which is by far the greatest asset of this album. A nice set of heterogeneous tracks like the powerhouse opener "Blade of Cimmeria", the Battleroar-esque "Oncoming Ice" and the awesome "Warrior Without Fear" and "Bell of Tarantia" that evoke bands such as Manilla Road, Eternal Champion and label-mates Atlantean Kodex, makes East of Sun a feast for the headbanger thirsty for mythology, fantasy and atmospheric Heavy Metal, and the killer covers of Omen's "Death Rider" and Savatage's "Hall of the Mountain King" as bonus tracks are the cherry on top; great debut album by a band to keep an eye on.
