Spanish label Xtreem Music has been releasing a lot of (mostly brutal) Spanish death metal (among other things over the years). Nasty Surgeons is a recent one, formed in 2016 and this is their second album. The band mixes death metal and grindcore, but even if grind isn’t your thing it shouldn’t prevent you from enjoying this album. The death growls are just perfect, not overbearing, not lost in the background, and it doesn’t sound like the vocalist is puking is breakfast. While speed is certainly at the rendezvous, sometimes almost feeling like it’s out of control, Nasty Surgeons know when to lift the foot from the gas pedal and go into a slower, heavier, more melodic mode that, if taken out of context, could well pass for thrash at times. So, far from a bland wall of noise, Infectious Stench breaks a few speed limits without neglecting variety to keep the listeners’ ears well fed. |
