14 songs in just under 27 minutes, there’s definitely some grind in the air. Deathgrave present some interesting grinding death metal with some punk influences. The album kicks off fast and nutty in typical grindcore fashion and I felt like stopping right there, but that required too much effort on my part. Laziness paid off as it doesn’t take long before things better and the band’s sound becomes more varied and interesting, with a few eerie bits here and there and there’s enough death metal (or close enough) material here to headbang and air guitar to, instead of just mindless grindcore slamming. The vocals alternate between good deep death growls, some black/thrashy harsh bits, and a chipmunk-ish squeaky style—the latter being downright annoying but thankfully not predominant. It’s good while it’s on but doesn’t leave much of a lasting impression, but chances are you won’t come out alive of that mosh pit. |
