Burst into Flame is the debut full-length from William Trevor Church’s Haunt and it is an improvement in every way over the band’s Luminous Eyes EP from 2017. The songwriting is significantly better from the rocking title track to the epic "Heroes" and the closer "Looking Glass" which sneaks up on you with a memorable chorus. The production is fuller than on the EP and the guitars are up front and in your face, riffing like its 1983. Musically, it’s a more American-sounding affair than the EP and if either White Wizzard or High Spirits had come up with an album like Burst into Flame, we’d be talking about them in the present tense. This one’s for all fans of excellent heavy metal and not the just the retro fiends. |
