Well, this is short and not so sweet, starting with some jeremiads that might be some Arabic chants (don’t know, don’t really care) and ending with a 4+ minute dark ambient track. The kind of stuff that might work on a full-length album, but not so much on a short EP. The rest is thankfully more interesting, just blasting, furious and speedy black metal with harsh rasps with a nightmarish vibe to them. If you’ve heard mid to late ‘90s Scandinavian black metal, then you’ll be in known territory. Black Funeral does not bring anything new to the table and try to get cute a little too much, making this EP sound longer than it really is. If not for the ambient track and the few weird tidbits here and there, this would be a much better release. Your mileage may vary. |
