Nachash is a Norwegian band that puts a different spin on their version of black metal. Guttural rasping vocals with an underlying tone of torture will certainly sound right and there is a modicum of fast-picked guitars, but Nachash focus more on riffs on their debut, Phantasmal Triunity. Don't worry, this isn't some "black 'n' roll" effort; these are crunchy, thrashy riffs that play off of the faster picking giving the music a sonorous vibration that reminds me of the sound Motörhead got on "Orgasmatron" but without the guitar synths. Purists, who are rarely happy anyway, may not appreciate what Nachash are doing with their combination of styles, but I like it a lot. Black metal fans can revel in the arcane lyrics and rasping singing while traditional/thrash fans can latch on to the guitar riffs and organic drum sound. Nachash is a new band with a promising sound. |
