This is fun. Opening Fire: 2008-2014 is a compilation of Power Trip songs that were only released on EPs and splits and not on one of the band's two full-length studio albums. This is no-frills, straightforward, in-your-face U.S. thrash metal firmly rooted in the '80s and while the band formed only 10 years ago, you'd think this was released 30 years ago. Crunchy riffs, razor-sharp guitar sound, powerful drumming, clean-ish thrash vocals, and enough catchy stuff for you to develop carpal tunnel syndrome from all the air guitaring. Compilations like this often sound kind of disjointed, but this one flows pretty nicely and almost feels like a studio album. Recommended for fans of mid to late 80s U.S. thrash, and the same goes for their two studio albums. |
