From the land of delicious pasta and pizzas, a remarkable amount of the ancient culture, fast cars and who knows what else, comes this Italian Thrash Metal patrol named Rawfoil. The band is one of many of those Italian Thrash Metal bands that hit the shores during the retro-Thrash movement that's been going on for years. Evolution in Action features eight songs and is Rawfoil's debut album even though the band has already been around for eight years. It's a good thing they let time pass by and kept on rehearsing before locking themselves in the studio environment. They sound tight and well rehearsed, playing Thrash with a relatively strong Bay Area feel to it, reminding me of such names as Death Angel, Testament and Forbidden, but with a more adventurous and progressive touch. The band is really good at what they do, offering a healthy dose of good riffage, nice tempo changes, stomping and kick-ass bass parts, and topping it off with the singer Francesco's (Ruvelo) varied vocal execution. There are a lot of nicely striking elements within their melodic and aggressive music that temp your neck, fingertips, and legs to get some action for nearly 40 minutes. It's almost as hard to resist this stuff as a couple of bottles of tasty beers your mouth is screaming on every Friday evening after a sucky day at work. Alright folks, have fun with this. |
