This is the debut EP by Chilean band Mortal Whisper, who are playing a pleasantly frenetic brand of Speed Metal. The guitars are good, with solid riffs and a lot of flair to the leads. The songwriting is standard but has a lot of energy. Guitarist/Vocalist Jose Tapia is a bit of a weak point, as when he gargles along thrash-style he sounds fine, but when he sings . . . eeehhhh, not so much. He's often off-key, and he doesn't have the sustain to power out notes. If he just stuck with a rougher style, he would work much better. Still, the riffage on display here is definitely worth checking out. |
