Witchfyre is a Spanish band that reaches back to the '80s for musical inspiration while keeping a modern production on their debut, Grimorium Verum. The songs on the album are pure heavy metal; plenty of riffs and solos, some speedier parts, booming bottom end and high-pitched vocals. The singer's English is a bit shaky and his vocals, while mostly in tune, are a bit wild at times but that only enhances the '80s vibe, a time when everything didn't have to be pitch-perfect. The lyrics are simple but ooze "metal" on cuts like "Devil's Child", "No Rest for the Witched" and "Queen of the Night". Witchfyre aren't doing anything you haven't heard but they are doing it very well and this is a solid debut. For fans of OZ, Keel, King Diamond, etc. |
