Review

Ghostly White is the eighth full-length from King Fowley's heavy/death band Deceased and my first exposure to their brand of heavy metal. You may color me impressed. This is a truly vicious slab of tasty thrash riffs and Fowley's barked-but-understandable vocals. Neatly balancing melody with ferocity, the band roars through the album, leaving bleeding eardrums and mosh-pit bruises in their wake. There's not a bad cut on the album but the 13 minutes and 20 second "Germ of Distorted Lore" is easily one of the best songs of any genre I've heard this year. Deceased's deftness at mixing styles is as clearly displayed on this song as anywhere else on the album and it never gets boring or bogs down, a testament to the quality of the songwriting. I love albums that transcend genres while remaining entertaining, both accomplished with ease by Ghostly White.
