I cannot remember when was the last time I heard a Metal band from Tunisia. Well, here's one anyway, and this band is called Flames of Wrath. Heaven Atop the Skulls is the band's debut album, and it's surprisingly good one, to be honest. Old-school Thrash Metal is the name of their game here, which is a mix of both European (German, in particular) and American Thrash Metal. It's got a plenty of good and aggressive riffs, good melodies, properly executed rhythm changes between faster and slower segments, heavier and more melodic ones, etc. However, Younes Azouzi's vocals are something that need some work. His raspy vocal parts are a tad too one-dimensional and unfortunately have a tendency to stick out of the pack, and not in any flattering light I am afraid. Flames of Wrath made me curious about what other hidden gems Tunisia's underground Metal scene may be hiding. Time for me to do some googling... |
