Debut album for this band, who have been creeping around for about ten years, cranking out splits and demos and EPs like so many bands do. Witch King are a blasty, noisy Black/Death band in the vein of acts like Archgoat or Impiety, with full-speed-ahead songwriting and a riff style that is fast and chaotic. There's no subtlety on this, no nuance, and no restraint. This is just a heavy-handed hammerfest from the word go, and if it's not what you are in the mood for, it could be too much. But if heads-down riff-murdering is what you crave, then this is the shit. |
