Souls of War is a standard but tightly played death metal album from the US school by Chicago's Inner Decay. Crisp riffs and squealing solos share the limelight with low, semi-decipherable growls and occasional rasps throughout the album. Even though the songwriting deviates little from the usual formula, I do especially like "Rot Within" which has a great riff and a cool Winston Churchill intro. This band is unsigned, but I can't imagine some label not grabbing this for a reissue/wider distribution. There's nothing inventive but it is solid front to back. |
