Nazrak take an interesting spin on French black metal compared to what I've listened to from France lately—mostly raw, second-wave-ish black metal. Cantiques funèbres showcases some of those influences, but throws in a lot of melody, sometimes doomy, sometimes more upbeat in a folk style. So within those 34 minutes you are treated with anything from speedy raw black metal to very melodic and melancholic, slow passages. Quite diverse and revealing something new on every listen.
