Panopticon is the fifth album from Germany's traditional metal stalwarts Metal Inquisitor. Old school, '80s metal is the name of the game and like the last album, 2014's Ultima Ratio Regis, it's got a streak of early thrash running through its otherwise traditional riffing. I don't find any one song rising above the others, but they are all consistently good. The singer has a lot of attitude and that gives his clear vocals an angry, sneering quality that fits perfectly with the sharp riffs. Panopticon isn't world-changing, just throw your fist in air metal that should be right up the alley of Metal Church and Sanctuary fans. |
