It's been many years since I last reviewed a Primal Fear album and I even lost track of them for the past 10 years or so—maybe more. I decided to give this one a listen when it landed in my promo queue (or black hole, whatever) and I've had a playlist tab with that album open in my music player ever since, becoming a go-to album when I need something upbeat with instant results.

I found the album is simply catchy and fun. It's filled with singalong material and these guys have been around long enough that they're one hell of a tight outfit with solid songwriting. Ralph Sheepers' vocals are still top notch and some of his vocal melodies on Apocalypse are like a pretty girl grabbing your arm to accompany her to the dance floor; can't say no to that kind of invitation to singalong and headbang. Watch that neck, too.

Not all songs are of the same calibre but most of them are solid and the lesser ones are good enough that you won't feel the urge to skip them. Primal Fear have a tradition of putting the power in power metal and Apocalypse does just that.
