The Filth Hounds hail from the U.K. and Hair of the Hound? is their second album. They play a heavily NWOBHM-inspired brand of hard rock/heavy metal "like it is 1981", as the press release says. I can certainly agree with that as musically the songs are built on uncomplicated riffs and simple drum patterns with lyrics that cover topics like lost love ("Photograph"), violence ("Attack!") and the aftermath of war ("Jack's Nightmare"). The Filth Hounds have the sound of the NWOBHM nailed right down to the flat singing, giving the whole effort that D.I.Y./garage feel. This isn't the heaviest album, but I still found myself bobbing my head to a riff and tapping my foot to a drum fill here and there, when I wasn't cringing at a particularly off-key shout. If you like metal on the hard rock side of the aisle, in the vein of classic bands like Gaskin and Demon or newer stuff like High Spirits, you might dig The Filth Hounds. |
