So, what do you get if you put Juuso Raatikainen (Swallow the Sun), Mikko Kotamäki (Swallow the Sun, Kuolemanlaakso) and Juho Räihä (Swallow the Sun, Gloria Morti, Hallatar) in the same room? Probably some cold, gloomy and doomy metal that reaps and destroys your soul. Yes, probably so, but not this time. Hedonihil plays a merciless, 'take-no-prisoners' style of black/death metal in the vein of Marduk, Fallen Christ, Angelcorpse, early Impaled Nazarene and early Morbid Angel that makes you beg for mercy due to its ruthless, savage and ultra-violent beating. They spare no one and that's only wise because hearing stuff this murderous, totally vile and absolutely truculent, you'll wish you were dead already. I never expected to hear this type of stuff from this trio, knowing their musical background. But it surely is a nice way to let off some steam. The band offer nothing that you haven't heard already but, damn, they do a few things right on this slab that make you feel an urgent need to go back to it, over and over again. |
