Metamorphosis is the fourth full-length from Switzerland's Pertness (still one of the odder band names in metal) and it is a step forward from the last album I reviewed, 2010's From the Beginning to the End. The band still plays crunchy, melodic power metal from the German school, but the songwriting is sharper, the guitars have more bite and the vocals are more powerful (though a bit screamy). There are still no true killer songs but no weak ones either, which makes Metamorphosis a consistently entertaining listen. Nice to see the band progressing and getting better. Fans of Iron Fire, Nocturnal Rites, etc. should give this a spin. |
