As I was browsing through my collection, I realized that I have a lot of albums and EPs by Horna, but I'd be hard pressed to pronounce or remember any of them! That's not really a problem since their music pretty much always kills no matter the title, and that's also true of this EP. They have some more-or-less polished stuff in their discography but Pimeyden Hehku isn't one of them. It's intense, raw-to-the-bone, pure-as-fuck cold Finnish black metal served with whatever is in the water in Lappeenranta. Their metal is grim, savage and sounds downright evil at times. Speed meets mid-paced passages for a good mix of violent and more melodic, borderline depressing songs. Like everything Horna, this is a safe bet in the black metal genre. |
