Evil never dies ... not Finland's black metal stalwarts Gloomy Grim anyway. Desecrating all things that are holy, it's time for a new four-song EP release from these guys, which carries the title Obscure Metamorphosis. The band seems to get better over the years, still relying strongly on their darkened, genuinely evil and mid-paced black metal approach. The wide use of keyboards to create chillingly haunting and morbid soundscapes has always worked for them and the use of keys is also remarkable on this album. "Impressive Physical Sight" sends some chills down your spine with its very creepy atmosphere; the song would work as a perfect soundtrack for an evilness-oozing horror film and "Stars Above Me" would be the second-best contender to take that role. Other than that, Gloomy Grim have always been following their own twisted path musically, not really caring of what may happen around them. |
