Powergame is a German band going for an '80s sound on their second album, Masquerade. It is an early power metal sound with thrashy riffs, tempos that range from mid-paced to quick (without the use of double-kick drums for the most part) and decent lead work. There are no keyboards and the singer can carry a tune but has an unremarkable voice which brings to mind a lot of the lesser-known NWOBHM acts. Powergame are solid performers but the songwriting is on the generic side and none of the songs do much to call attention to themselves, with the exception of "Blackout," a cover of the Scorpions hit, which is OK but can't touch the original. Masquerade makes me think of a cross between early Scanner and NWOBHM-era groups like Brainfever and Dragonslayer, a cross that is nice while on but doesn't stick around for very long after it is over.
