Hailing from Portland, Oregon, this oddball band mentions drinking, smoking and chasing wild women as their "hobbies". Sounds like Manowar has gone Spinal Tap (or vice versa). Yes, this crazy American foursome doesn't take itself too seriously, and that's fine: Metal doesn't need to be serious all the time (the song titles say it all: "Gay White Shark", "Skelewhore in Hell", "The Curse of King Kahtumfuckin", etc.). Fortunately, they take themselves just seriously enough to make a pretty damn cool mixture of Heavy, Speed and Thrash Metal that focuses on a traditional/power US metal while still oozing with attitude and a sick sense of humor. The music on this six-song slab is very well done, having clear song structures with some good old-school riffs, rhythm patterns, and aggressive vocals from screaming lead singer Ryan and background grunter Robbie. It's a good mix of metallic ingredients that make you want to come back to this over and over again. This is a harsh, old-school Metal to the bone—and I love it, every bit of it! If some musical comparisons should be nailed down here, take bits and pieces from bands like Destructor, Ranger, Tyrant (from Pasadena, CA), early Slayer and Usurper, and there you have it. Horns up for them! |
