A Violent Dread is a short two-song EP of fast-paced, polished black metal that's not without reminding me of some of the most "brutal" material from more-or-less symphonic black metal bands. It's pretty decent, but it's over quickly and there isn't much left to remember once it's over. The first song is an original while the second one is a cover of Dawn's "The Knell and the World." I've never heard the original version, so I can't compare, but it's alright. The title track is a lot better and a more interesting listen, with a richer sound filled with blazing instrumentation and even with a slightly epic vibe to it. Nothing groundbreaking here, but quite alright for the genre. |
