Orion Child are not a new band in any way, but this is only their third full-length. As it features a combination of Incursed and Vhäldemar members, it was clear to me that their modus operandi would be of a denser approach to power metal, and this is exactly the case. Especially in the drum department, provided by Jandro, and with the addition of harsh vocals by guitarist Jones, this already tried and true mix between a stronger, less-cheesy power metal with minor melodic death elements works well here. The vocal lines are not the best asset here, though, as main man Víctor Hernández's voice is not imposing or memorable in any way. As the name suggests, this album is heavily inspired by sci-fi (which is always a good thing) themes, resulting in a similar approach done recently by Pyramaze in their Congingent album, but in a less mature way songwriting-wise, unfortunately. It's a really cool album overall with a few step-backs here and there, but recommended for power metal fans, nonetheless. |
