Ulthar present some devastating blackened death metal on their debut album, Cosmovore. Speed, heaviness and pounding drums are (mostly) the name of the game here, complemented by otherworldly death growls that add another dimension to the ensemble. When the band isn't rampaging through your speakers at supersonic speeds, they slow down to an almost doomy pace where things get eerily heavy, atmospheric and downright malevolent. Brace yourself, for this never lasts longs until they charge at full speed once again and make you their bitch. I find it a little bit repetitive, but not boring, though it's not really an album that leaves an impression once it's over; it's one you simply enjoy while it's on and play on repeat. |
