Hailing from Slayer's hometown of Los Angeles and sounding a LOT like the thrash legends is the band Omicia who, in 2019, release their second album, Defrauded Reign. Omicida combine the melodic approach and shouted vocals that characterized much of Show No Mercy with the harsh riffs and dark, moody atmospheres of Reign in Blood. Defrauded Reign is far from bad, but it is like listening to a bunch of leftover material from Slayer's first three albums. There's plenty of energy and speedy savagery but not much in the way of personality. Defrauded Reign has some classic-sounding early-to-mid 80s thrash moments for those that can't get enough Slayer. |
